Why should America and other countries around the world give handouts to the laziest among us? Peoples who have not bothered to educate themselves and gotten a decent job. Governments giving money to unstable people who cant keep a job is lunacy. These people would probably waste that money on drugs or alcohol and not save it for their future or use it in a responsible way. If they are not responsible enough to learn a vocation, trade, business or skill, what forces society to support them? Why should society support and sponsor these people when it was their own laziness that got them there? Do we really have a need in society for things like welfare, medicaide, or homeless shelters?
Governments and society in general help the more unfortunate among us for several reasons. One is that societies with large, hard working low class populations do not usually last long, the government is overthrown. Examples of this are the French and Russian revolutions, and the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict. When someone is stuck in a low-class, low pay, long-hour job; and have no hope of life getting better for them or their children they get desperate. Large numbers of desperate people is what large revolts and revolutions are made of.
People who have a low-income are not always, where they are in life because of their own laziness. It is often not their own bad decisions that got them where they are, it is sometimes just luck. Whether they were born into a low-income family and could not afford collage, or were the victim of a sudden downturn in the economy, it was not their lack of a work ethic that put them on the lower rungs of society. It should therefore be societys responsibility to give these individuals a second chance and help them to overcome the obstacles that have unfairly prevented them from succeeding in life.
Helping people move up the economic ladder also helps the economy. These people now have more money, which they can then spend on simple things that they could not afford, like food and basic medicine. The companies that make those products then get more money and can pass that on to their employees, and stockholders who can then spend it on other things and continue to stimulate the economy. In this way, giving money to the less fortunate may also result in better economic times for the rest of society.
Giving to individuals who are struggling economically has many benefits to the society involved. It lowers the number of desperate people in society, thereby lowering the number of desperate acts committed in that area. Welfare programs also help people overcome undeserved obstacles that are preventing them from doing better in life. These programs also help the economy by giving these people more money to buy essential things like food and medicine. It is societys duty and in its own interest to help those at the bottom of the economic ladder.
